Brive-La-Gaillarde is in fact the most important town of the Corrèze with a population of over 51.000.. In medieval times, Brive was enclosed by a town-wall. Nowadays there is a belt-railway for the motorized traffic, with the original town area in the center. The sights in the old town centre are within walking distance from each other and a major part of the town centre is a pedestrian-only area. The town is ideal for shopping, also for specialties such as truffles, mushrooms and Foie Gras. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday there is a small market on the spacious Place du 14 Juillet.
