This suite, Marie-Antoinette, is the largest of the 4 rooms of the Château. It is situated at the first floor. With a surface of over 40 m², it offers a view at the park at the backside (west) and south of the Château. The suite has its own luxurious bathroom with a shower (150x100 cm), a bath, a toilet and a double hand basin. The double bed is 155 x 205 cm and therefore meets up to the present demands for an overnight stay. The room breaths the atmosphere of the early ages, with its high ceiling (4 meters), the fireplace with its original mantelpiece, classical furniture, goblins on the walls and its heavy velvet curtains. Besides the bedroom this suite also has a separate sitting area in the adjoining tower that once again offers a splendid view at the park and its hilly scenery. The room has indoor shutters for each window in order to keep the room cool during warm summer days.
The suite is named after Marie-Antoinette of Habsburg-Lotharingen (November 2nd, 1755 – October 16th, 1793). She was one of 16 children of Kaiser Franz I and Maria Theresia of Austria. In 1770, at the age of 15, she married crown prince Louis, who later became King Louis XVI. The queen had a good sense of fashion and did not worry about money at all. A copperplate was made of her in the “Galerie des Modes” as fashion-conscious queen. The queen owned an excellent collection of jewels. Many of these jewels were lost during time but have been immortalized in many impressive paintings. During the French Revolution, Marie-Antoinette was executed by guillotine in Paris on October the 16th, 1793.
